Pas De Quatre Music Ceasare Pugni Choreography Jules Perrot 1845 Staged by Shannon and Torris Caston Yulia Miller 2008 Costumes by Metropolitan Ballet St. Louis Pas de Quatre was a ballet divertissement choreographed by Jules Perrot in 1845, for Queen Victoria who wanted to see her favorite ballerinas dance in a ballet together. The ballerinas were, in order of appearance, Lucile Grahn, Carlotta Grisi (The first Giselle), Fanny Cerrito, and Marie Taglioni (Ballerina famous for being the first to “dance on her toes” and wear the “white tulle long romantic ballet tutu”, and the first La Sylphide). The order of appearance was done by age, from youngest to oldest, to quelch confrontations. The original cast only danced four performances together. We have been fortunate to have our own repetitour- Yulia Miller help in the restaging of this classic. Her training from Novisibirsk included performing Pas De Quatre and learning from instructors that taught in the style of the famous Marinsky Theater! |
